Wedding candles are an essential component of the Orthodox wedding. Two candles are lead during the service, one for the bride and one for the groom. The candles remind the couple of the light of Christ who is with them throughout the sacrament and their coming life together. The candles can also be tied together with a ribbon to symbolize the union of the couple - however this is an older tradition that is no longer used as much.
The wedding candles are usually tapered and are about 1 meter in height and can be 1.5 inches to 3 inches in diameter.
